The Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) is an astronomical survey designed to measure the expansion rate of the Universe.[1]

It will focus on luminous red galaxies (LRGs) and quasars, mapping the spatial distribution.[2]

This survey is one of four components of SDSS-III.
